We're happy to announce that Tarlo now supports Sign In with Google — making it faster and easier than ever to access your IPFS storage. Whether you're creating a new account or logging into an existing one, you can now get started with a single click.
Why Google Sign-In?
We heard from our users that managing yet another password for their IPFS storage felt unnecessary. With Google Sign-In, you eliminate that friction entirely. Your Google account becomes your key to Tarlo — no new passwords to create, no credentials to remember, and no password reset emails to deal with.
This is especially useful for developers who already use Google Workspace for their projects. If you're managing IPFS content for your dApp, NFT collection, or Web3 project, you can now jump straight into uploading without any authentication hassle.
What you get with Google Sign-In
- One-click login: No forms to fill, no passwords to type
- Instant registration: New account created automatically on first sign-in
- Automatic account linking: If you already have a Tarlo account with the same email, your Google account is linked seamlessly
- Profile auto-fill: Your name and email are imported from Google
- Full feature access: Everything you can do with email/password, you can do with Google
How It Works
Getting Started in 3 Steps
You'll find the button on both the login and registration screens. One button for both — we handle the rest.
Google's secure sign-in page lets you pick which account to use. We only request your basic profile info (name and email) — nothing else.
That's it. You're logged in and ready to upload files, manage your IPFS content, and pin CIDs. If it's your first time, your account is created automatically.
Automatic Account Linking
Already have a Tarlo account that you created with email and password? No problem. If you sign in with Google using the same email address, we automatically link your Google account to your existing Tarlo account. All your uploads, pins, and settings remain exactly where they are.
After linking, you can use either method to log in — Google Sign-In for convenience, or your email and password if you prefer. Both will take you to the same account with all your data intact.
Good to know
If you sign in with Google, your profile will show a "Signed in with Google" badge. The password change and two-factor authentication sections are hidden since Google handles your authentication security. If you originally registered with email/password, you can still use that method alongside Google Sign-In.
Security & Privacy
We take authentication security seriously. Here's how Google Sign-In works under the hood and what data we access:
Our security commitments
- Minimal data access: We only request your name and email address — we cannot access your Google Drive, Gmail, contacts, or any other Google services
- Industry-standard OAuth 2.0: We use Google's official OAuth 2.0 protocol, the same standard used by thousands of trusted applications
- No password stored: When you use Google Sign-In, we never receive or store a password for your account
- Google's security built-in: You benefit from Google's own security features, including their suspicious activity detection and account recovery
- Revocable access: You can disconnect Tarlo from your Google account at any time through your Google Account settings

What's Next
Google Sign-In is just the beginning. We're continuing to improve the Tarlo authentication experience with planned features including:
- Password reset via email: For email/password users who forget their credentials
- Additional OAuth providers: GitHub login for our developer users is on the roadmap
- Session management: View and manage your active sessions from your profile
We believe that accessing your decentralized storage should be as frictionless as possible. Google Sign-In removes one more barrier between you and your IPFS content.
